Moses Baskets

Moses Basket came to prominence in a reading from the Bible “When she could hide him no longer she got a wicker Basket for him and caulked it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child into the basket and placed it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile”. The child in question was, of course Moses.

Moses Baskets were common containers, during our Bible history, baskets were made from reed or bulrushes, twigs or other natural materials. Baskets varied widely in strength shape and purpose, although they usually had handles of some sort and sometimes lids. Baskets were commonly used for such things as bread and fruit, but were also used as cages for pet birds or other small animals. Baskets varied in size from small to medium carried by hand or on the shoulder or head, to large, carried on a pole between two people.
